Message:

I am writing today to express my support for South Jersey Gas’ proposed natural gas transmission pipeline. This new pipeline will provide the B.L. England generating facility with natural gas during its anticipated conversion from coal – a conversion that will significantly benefit our environment.

The combination of a high-efficiency combined cycle combustion turbine, state-of-the-art air emission controls, and clean-burning natural gas will place the repowered plant among the cleanest power plants in New Jersey. Emission rates of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur dioxide (SO2), the pollutants associated with smog and acid rain, will be cut by 96-99% for each kWh generated when compared to the existing station.

Additionally, the pipeline will serve more than 142,000 South Jersey Gas customers in Cape May and Atlantic counties with an emergency supply of gas in the event of a service interruption – a back-up supply that as of right now, they are lacking. South Jersey residents and businesses in the southernmost part of the state cannot afford to gamble when it comes to the reliability of their natural gas service. An outage, like that experienced further north in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, would leave Cape May and Atlantic counties devastated and could result in a loss of service for multiple months.

This project is essential to ensure safe and reliable natural gas and electricity service can be provided for all residents and businesses in South Jersey. It is good for the South Jersey Gas customers in Cape May and Atlantic counties; it is good for the environment; and it is good for the state of New Jersey.

I urge you to support South Jersey Gas’ pipeline reliability project.

Sincerely,
